There was a rainbow.

Faint, tucked into the distance, but impossible to miss once you saw it. It stretched softly across the sky, adding color to an otherwise moody afternoon where dark clouds hovered low over the lake. The kind of sky that threatens to change plans. The kind that makes you question whether you should pack it up and try again another day.

But we didn’t. We stayed.

And honestly, I wouldn’t have expected anything else when it comes to Youla and John. Because if I had to describe them in one sentence, it would be this: they are the rainbow in any storm. In this case, quite literally before it. We spent the evening at Lighthouse Landing Beach laughing, reading books, and soaking in the quiet moments like it was any other perfect day. No rush. No stress. Just being together. That’s their magic. They make everything feel easy. Intentional. Joyful.

And maybe that’s why this session felt so special to me.

Because I don’t just know Youla and John as clients. I know them as clients turned friends. The kind of friends you’re genuinely grateful life brought your way. The kind that make you feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated just by being themselves. So watching them step into this new season felt incredibly full circle. Youla and John were the sunshine on that gloomy beach day. And somehow, they passed that same warmth right along to their sweet baby boy.

Fast forward to winter. The outside world was cold, quiet, and still. But inside their home, it was the complete opposite. It was warm. Cozy. Filled with love. And right at the center of it all was Baby N. Chunky cheeks. The sweetest little head of hair. Tiny features that you could stare at forever.

He was perfection.

He gave us little smiles like he knew exactly what he was doing, and he let Youla and John soak him in completely. They held him close, admired every tiny detail, and loved on him in that quiet, overwhelming way new parents do. The kind of love that fills a room without saying a word. Time felt like it stood still.

It was that newborn bubble we all wish we could bottle up. Where nothing else matters except being close, being present, and holding onto the smallest moments before they change. And Baby N? He was so content. Calm in their arms. Peaceful. Like he already knew how deeply he was loved.

Getting to witness both of these chapters, from a rainbow-filled maternity session to a cozy newborn morning, is something I will never take for granted. These are the moments that matter most. The in-between seasons. The quiet beginnings. The overwhelming joy that comes with new life and growing families.

But more than anything, this post is a thank you. Youla and John, thank you for your friendship. Thank you for trusting me to capture these memories for you. Thank you for letting me be part of your story, both behind the camera and beyond it. And thank you for the reminder to be more like you.

To be the light on a gloomy day. To be kind and welcoming. To love deeply and live fully. Because that’s where the most meaningful relationships are formed, and where life feels the most beautiful.

I love you guys. And I love this life you’re building. 🤍
