The sun shimmered across the perfectly manicured greens of Ivanhoe Club, peeking through the trees in the most magical way as if it knew Madi and John’s day deserved to be bathed in golden light. It was one of those quintessentially perfect fall afternoons, warm enough to leave the jacket behind but still cozy enough to invite all the snuggles and love. The gentle hum of laughter, clinking glasses, and rustling leaves set the tone for what was about to be one of the most joy-filled, radiant days I’ve witnessed.


At the center of it all were Madi and John, two people who practically define sunshine.


“Omg, you’re in a wedding dress!” and “BABE! WE’RE MARRIED!” were two little phrases that perfectly summed up their day. The first came just moments into their first look. They giggled and gasped their way through it, completely over the moon as they finally saw one another. They shared endless hugs, jokingly asked if they were allowed to kiss before the ceremony, and spent every second swooning over each other like they had just won the biggest jackpot life could offer.


The air around them was filled with joy, the kind of contagious, heart-melting happiness that makes you stop and smile just watching them. It truly felt like a movie scene, except it was real life, and they were the stars.

The second phrase, the iconic “BABE! WE’RE MARRIED!”, came right after their ceremony. They had just sealed their vows with a perfect dip kiss and made their way down the aisle, giddy beyond words. As they reached the top of the hill for a private moment, John, still buzzing with excitement, blurted it out with so much love and disbelief that it echoed through the air. Even though it wasn’t meant for anyone’s ears but Madi’s, I felt so lucky to witness it. That joy was magnetic, pure, and unfiltered love.


Maybe it’s because Madi and John have been together since high school, the kind of love that grows through every stage of life. Maybe it’s because they’ve been dreaming about this day for years. Or maybe it’s simply because these two radiate joy as naturally as they breathe. Their laughter is effortless. Their smiles are endless. They make everyone around them feel at ease, like sunshine personified. And this comes as no surprise since I learned all of this and more from their engagement session.


The day was full of those tiny, magical moments. Happy tears, heartfelt vows, comical ceremony moments, and a dance floor party that could have gone all night long. I watched Madi and John approach each guest with such grace and gratitude, embracing every person with the warmest hug and the most genuine smile. It really couldn't have been a more perfect day. But these little phrases are what I’ll always remember. Because they are Madi and John in their purest form: raw, real, and full of heart. They remind us all that love doesn’t need to be complicated or grand to be unforgettable. It just needs to be genuine.


Madi and John, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you. For being radiant, joyful, and for letting your love shine so freely. Thank you for trusting me to capture your day, for welcoming me into your world with open arms, and for blessing me with your friendship. I adore you both endlessly and cannot wait to see what this next chapter brings.


And John, I have to lovingly disagree with you. When I asked what you were most excited for, you said it was for your lives to start together. But I think they already have. You’ve been building this foundation for years, from hallway crushes in high school to a long-distance love story through college. Now you’re simply strengthening what’s already been beautifully created, a love rooted in God’s goodness, joy, and unwavering devotion.


So here’s to you, Madi and John, to the laughter, the light, and the lifelong adventure that’s already underway. You are the proof that love can be playful, beautiful, and deeply rooted all at once.
