There wasn't a cloud in the sky. Not one. The temperature was perfect. A soft breeze moved through the trees. The kind of breeze that somehow knew exactly when to pick up Linnea's veil and send it floating behind her like we had hired someone specifically for the job. We were even running ahead of schedule.

On a wedding day. I KNOW.

It was one of those days where everything seemed to fall perfectly into place. Time moved slowly enough to enjoy it, but somehow kept perfect rhythm with every moment still to come.

And John? He was ready to get this show on the road.

Linnea and John had decided not to do a first look, so while I was taking John's portraits before the ceremony, I checked in with him. He was adjusting his suit jacket when I asked the obvious question.

How are you feeling? Nervous? Excited? Just ready to finally see her and be married?

"Oh, I'm great!" he told me. "I kind of just want to do the thing already, but I can't wait to see her. I'm a crier, so I'm sure it'll hit me when she walks down the aisle."

And honestly, that one answer told me almost everything I needed to know about the day ahead. No panic.

No overthinking. Just, let's do this. Let's get married. Let's celebrate. Let's have the absolute best day with our favorite people. And maybe cry a little along the way.

That is so perfectly Linnea and John.

These two are completely, unapologetically themselves. They're funny. They're honest. They're warm. They say what they're thinking and feeling, but always with so much kindness and heart behind it. Most importantly, they have fun together. So much fun.

Laughter seemed to follow them everywhere that day, and it wasn't limited to just the two of them. Their families carry that same joyful energy, which made the entire celebration at Chevy Chase Country Club feel less like a formal wedding day and more like one giant party that happened to include two people promising forever to each other.

Even that morning, Linnea was cracking jokes about how all the "hard work on herself since childhood really paid off" when comments were made about how calm she was. Because of course she was.

Meanwhile, her Matron of Honor/older sister was taking partial credit for the gorgeous weather after apparently spending the week doing rain dances. And you know what? I'm giving her the credit. Because the weather was PERFECT.

Then the ceremony began. And suddenly, beneath all the jokes and the easygoing energy, there it was. The emotion John had predicted. The anticipation. The magnitude of what was happening. The realization that after all the waiting and planning, they were finally standing there about to become husband and wife.

And then they did. The second Linnea and John were pronounced married, it was like someone turned the joy up another ten levels. Their smiles were brighter than the sunshine we'd been bragging about all day. They were giddy. Radiant. Completely over the moon.

And that joy never really came back down. They carried it through portraits. Through hugs with family and friends. Through a reception overflowing with laughter. And straight onto the dance floor. Which is where the universe decided a day this perfect needed at least one tiny plot twist. During Linnea and John's first dance, her hair somehow became tangled in John's cufflink. Yes. His cufflink. Her hair. On the dance floor. In the middle of their epic first dance. You can't write this stuff.

But what I loved wasn't that it happened. It was how they handled it. There was no panic. No frustration over their perfectly choreographed moment being interrupted. They just went with it. Because of course they did.

It was another perfectly imperfect little moment on a day that felt almost too good to be true, and somehow it made everything even more them.

That's what I keep coming back to when I think about Linnea and John's wedding. It wasn't perfect because nothing unexpected happened. It was perfect because nothing had the power to make it anything less. The weather cooperated. The veil floated perfectly in the breeze. The timeline somehow ran ahead. And yes, a bride's hair became attached to her new husband's cufflink.

But through all of it, Linnea and John were exactly where they wanted to be. Together. Married. Surrounded by the people they love most. Laughing through every second of it. Maybe that's the kind of perfection worth chasing on a wedding day. Not flawless. Not meticulously controlled. Just being so completely present and happy that even the little things that go sideways become part of the story you'll laugh about later.

Linnea and John, thank you for trusting me to be part of yours. Thank you for showing up exactly as yourselves and filling your wedding day with so much joy, laughter, kindness, and love. Thank you for welcoming me into a celebration that felt just as wonderful to witness as I'm sure it did to live. And John, you were right. You just needed to "do the thing already." Because once you did, the two of you absolutely glowed.

Here's to a lifetime of that same kind of joy, a lot more laughter, and hopefully significantly fewer cufflink-related hair emergencies. 🤍
