We heard it in the distance. A faint rumbling started at what seemed like miles away. At first, it was easy to ignore. But within moments, that rumble transformed into the roar of a freight train barreling past at full speed. The wind whipped around us, carrying Sam's cathedral veil in the air quiet forcefully and elegantly all at the same time. But the noise made it almost impossible to hear anything else. Joliet Grand Ballroom, while stunning, came with this surprise of it's own as we were standing on the terrace overlooking the tracks. Sam and John were sharing a private moment. They were reading their vows to one another, far from the eyes of their loved ones. The pair were visibly emotional, trading promises that would define their future together. Tears welled up in their eyes, and soft giggles broke through the nerves as they held hands and stared into each other's eyes. You could just feel the love radiating between them, filling the air. And that's when the train came. I watched, thinking this might throw them off or force them to pause, but to my amazement, it didn't.

Sam, as calm as ever, pulled John closer. With their foreheads gently pressed together, she continued to read her vows. The noise of the world and train around them faded into the background as they focused only on each other. Giggles turned into smiles, and they were completely wrapped up in their own bubble of love. Nothing else mattered. Once the train passed and it was John’s turn to pour out his love for Sam, I couldn’t help but comment on how impressed I was with their ability to stay so grounded despite the chaos. John, ever the comedian, flashed me a cheeky grin and said, "You know, Emily, you’ve just got to roll with the punches!" And they did just that. Sam and John shared another laugh and went right back to their vows without skipping a beat. It was one of those moments that beautifully sums up marriage itself. The perfect reminder that even on your wedding day — and in life — you can’t control everything. But, if you roll with the punches and focus on what really matters, you’ll come out the other side stronger and more connected than ever.

For those of you who remember Sam and John's engagement session, you remember that this is one of my favorite things about them. Sam and John do their best to not take anything too seriously. Instead they just truly enjoy every moment spent together and they do so by making the best out of every situation. Their relationship is built on laughter and joy. And the best word to describe their chemistry is playful. They aren't afraid to be a little silly, even if others are watching them. Which is such a blessed personality trait to have because it becomes very hard to be anything but happy with a big smile on your face when you are around these two. So this moment with them is such a beautiful memory to have. Especially because for Sam and John, that unexpected train became just another part of their story. A reminder that, no matter what life throws their way, as long as they have each other, they can laugh their way through it. I like to think that this approach is easy for Sam and John because of how much love they have for each other. It's a playful love, yes, but it's also romantic. It's straight out of a fairytale. And it's a love that will last them a lifetime. They can read each other like a book and they bring out the best in one another. Sam and John are truly the perfect pair. They have some differences that help create balance in their relationship, but they share more similarities than anything. Like their mutual love for their family and friends or the desire to always make the other person happy. Or how they both love the same music and find joy in the small moments like building Legos together. Or how they are both so incredibly passionate about loving each other #toinfinityandbeyond forever with a family of their own.

Sam and John, thank you! Thank you for not only sharing your beautiful love story with me, but for letting me capture it. Your love is one for the books and we have so many sweet moments together that I will cherish forever. Thank you for being a beautiful reminder that in life and on a wedding day, one might not be able to control every detail, but sometimes the most unexpected moments end up being the most meaningful. Thank you for embracing the chaos, for cherishing the little moments, and remembering to roll with the punches. Thank you for being you. And for blessing me with your friendship. Your love story will forever be beautifully, perfectly yours. And I am honored to witness that as your photographer and now your friend!
