It was raining.
Correction—it was POURING.
The kind of rain that blurs the world into a romantic haze and makes you want to curl up with a blanket, a cup of something warm, and someone you love. But when Garrett made plans to surprise Katie with a walk through Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve, there was no turning back. Rain or shine, love was about to take center stage. Katie had never been to Fort Sheridan before, so the plan was already sweet. But Garrett had one more surprise tucked under his umbrella—he was about to ask her to be his forever.
And he did just that.
Under the biggest umbrella he could find, with rain dancing all around them like a movie scene, Garrett dropped to one knee. Katie’s reaction was instant and radiant—she lit up so bright, the gloomy sky didn’t stand a chance. Her “yes!” echoed with joy, followed by the happiest hug and the most love-filled kisses I’ve ever seen. It felt like a moment straight out of The Notebook—passionate, poetic, and a little bit soggy in the best way. I think what made it even more special was the way Katie and Garrett just embraced it all. The rain. The wind. The soaked shoes and misty hair. None of it mattered, because they were exactly where they wanted to be: together. And honestly? That joy, that laughter, that ability to find magic in the mess—that’s what forever love looks like.
